Posted in Uncategorized on July 4, 2009 by Marcus Anthony Rodriguez

Today is the 4th of July. It also marks the 70th anniversey of Lou Gehrig famous goodbye. Lou Gehrig is perhaps one of the greatest American Athletes in the history of sports. It is very fitting that his speech was made on Americas Birthday.

Today across the diamond Major League Baseball will honor Lou Gehrig. A video tribute will be shown at Yankee Stadium. A “4-ALS” logo will adorn every base around the league. Below is his famous speech. Lou Gehrig was a special person, special ball player. Lou Gehrig was and is a Yankee. Lou Gehrig was American.

Lou Gehrig’s speech is below.

Happy 4th of July!

“Fans, for the past two weeks you have been reading about the badbreak I got. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the faceof this earth. I have been in ballparks for seventeen years and havenever received anything but kindness and encouragement from you fans.

Look at these grand men. Which of you wouldn’t consider itthe highlight of his career just to associate with them for even oneday? Sure, I’m lucky. Who wouldn’t consider it an honor to have known Jacob Ruppert? Also, the builder of baseball’s greatest empire, EdBarrow? To have spent six years with that wonderful little fellow,Miller Huggins? Then to have spent the next nine years with that outstanding leader, that smart student of psychology, the best managerin baseball today, Joe McCarthy? Sure, I’m lucky.

When the New York Giants, a team you would give your right arm to beat, and vice versa, sends you a gift – that’s something. When everybody down to the groundskeepers and those boys in white coats remember you with trophies – that’s something. When you have a wonderful mother-in-law who takes sides with you in squabbles with her own daughter – that’s something. When you have a father and a mother who work all their lives so you can have an education and build your body – it’s a blessing. When you have a wife who has been a tower of strength and shown more courage than you dreamed existed – that’s the finest I know.

So I close in saying that I may have had a tough break, but I have an awful lot to live for.”

FILES-BRITAIN-US-ENT-MUSIC-JACKSON

Yesterday the world lost Michael Jackson. Love him or hate him you cannot take away what he brought to the world. He was music. He was the voice for millions worldwide. He transcended race, religion and musical genres. Nobody was, is or ever will be able to match the genius that was Michael Jackson.

Thank you for teaching me the art that can be in music. You will forever be missed, but never forgotten.

Mel Hall was sentenced to 45 years for raping a 12 year old girl in Texas. Goodbye you worthless piece of crap. Not that you will ever see this post. But all those times you stopped and posed for photos, signed autographs was it to try to get in the pants of some little child? I am glad that in the land of execution you received 45 years. The death penalty would have been to easy for you. I hope you get everything that is about to come your way. Their is a storm of brutality coming your way in your new home. Big shot athlete taking advantage and hurting a defenseless girl. Guess who the new girl is Mel?

One more disgrace

sammy-sosa-sign

So according to a NY Times report, Sammy Sosa is one of the 104 players who tested positive for proformance enhancing drugs in 2003. I would be lying if I said his positive test surprises me. I am disappointed.

I am disappointed that a young boy or girl that comes from a third world latin nation may feel that the only way out is the illegal and dangerous way.

I am disappointed about how a Sosa fan in Chicago or anywhere else may feel betrayed by “his guy”.

I am once again disappointed that this list is doing more harm then good.

I am disappointed that a week from now most fans will forget about Steriods and Rule Breakers until another story is leaked.

I am disappointed that fans will be rooting for Manny in less then two weeks. Can you blame them? Pennent Race Fever.

Lastly, I am disappointed that Sosa wore the number of the greatest Latin American MLB Player to walk the earth.

Mr.Sosa,
You may think that you honored Roberto Clemente by wearing his number 21. You didn’t. Shame on you. I don’t have a vote for the Hall of Fame. If I did have a vote, it would not go to you. I hope you never make it in, for you will always and forever be a cheat.

By the way remember Maris? He still owns the single season HR record even if the books say otherwise.

PS 22 and Save the music

Posted in music on June 16, 2009 by Marcus Anthony Rodriguez

This is a story that truly hits close to home. Without music in my life from an early age I am not sure what path I may have taken. Thank you Mr.B and the Chorus of P.S. 22.

Programs like this one must not be cut from schools across the country. These school systems are bad enough as it is. We do not need to make them worse by not caring or having a lack of a voice when needed.
